        Niobium hafnium alloy (Niobium Hafnium alloys)

        In niobium niobium alloy base by adding a certain amount of hafnium and otherelements to form. In the two phase diagram, niobium and beta -Hf form substitution solid solution.

        HF is an active element, forming HfO2 and HfC compounds with oxygen andniobium carbide in the dispersion strengthening effect, at the same time, to reduce the harmful effects of interstitial elements, welding and coating performance improvement of niobium alloy. Niobium hafnium alloy is a kind of niobium alloy application in aerospace engineering and technology most.

        In 1965, America successfully developed the Nb-10Hf-1Ti alloy, and for Appollomanned lunar module descent stage rocket engine nozzle extension in 1969. In 1975, China developed NbHf10Ti1Zr0.7 niobium alloy.

        Niobium hafnium alloy by strengthening methods are divided into two categories:solid solution strengthened alloys and solid solution strengthening and dispersion strengthening alloy combination.

        The mechanical properties, good weldability with niobium hafnium alloy (Table 1,table 2).

        Preparation method: billet preparation and plastic processing: niobium hafniumalloy method is usually used in electron beam melting and vacuum consumable arc melting combined preparation ingot, then at 1200 DEG C temperature extrusion orforging, rolling and drawing and processing in at a temperature of 500 DEG, can be made into a plate, belt, rod, wire and forging products.

        Welding: niobium hafnium alloy has good weldability, usually by tungsten argon gas protection welding and electron beam welding method to realize the connection of the parent metal, also can use these two kinds of welding methods to complete theniobium hafnium alloy with titanium and titanium alloy welding. The quality andpurity of argon and vacuum degree on weld, usually argon purity is higher, the lower the residual atmospheric pressure, the weld quality is better.

        Heat treatment: general use of annealed in vacuum or inert gas protection andsolid solution and aging treatment.

        Coating: usually adopt the Cr-Ti-Si and Cr-Fe-Si series of anti-oxidation coating.Niobium hafnium alloy coated with these two kinds of coating in 1371 degrees Celsius in the air oxidation of life at 150h or above.

        Uses: mainly used for liquid rocket engine nozzle extension and radiation coolingthrust chamber body, space and power generation system of molten sodium and sodium potassium alloy pressure tube and the turbine pump, jet engine high-temperature structural components etc..
